First off, let me introduce myself.  My name is Tyllie Corbin, and I am getiing ready to start my 15th (wow, where has the time gone?) year of teaching.  I started off teaching ESL in Killeen, TX and then moved to Bowling Green, KY when my husband got a job at Western Kentucky University.  We lived in BG for two years and moved back to the Cedar Valley when he got a job with the Waterloo Bucks.  I was fortunate enough to get a job at Oelwein teaching Secondary Spanish and worked there for six years until I took a Spanish job at Denver.  Last year, I was asked if I would be interested in transitioning to the Library.  After some thought, I decided the Library would be a good fit for me.  I'm excited to help grow the students' love for reading, work with the ever changing world of technology, and collaborate with my colleagues.
Over the summer, I have done a lot of exploration about libraries, reading, and technology.  I am including a link to my Symbaloo K-2 read-aloud page, so students can listen to books on whatever device they have at their disposal.

We are finally off and running in technology class!  The kindergarteners have been working on alphabet and mousing skills.  A big favorite of theirs is the alphabetical order game on abcya (http://www.abcya.com/alphabet.htm).  The first graders have been working on rhyming words and drawing on the computer using SumoPaint (http://www.sumopaint.com/app/).  Second grade has been reading Robert Munsch on Tumble Books and retelling the story The Mud Puddle on Little Bird Tales (http://www.littlebirdtales.com).  Be sure to ask your third grader about which famous person they are studying for their biography unit.  Soon, they will be making a Fakebook page on their Chromebooks.  The fourth graders are reading mysteries and looking for key details in their plot.  We will be making a comic strip of the plot on Comic Master

(http://www.comicmaster.org.uk).  The fifth graders are reading fiction books and retelling the story in a Google presentation.
